Ok, then maybe we are close to an agreement. I am using the term dominance, as in, having the power and intent to manage. We get killed off or influenced by lots of pests but it is more because we get in their way than because they have any intentions of dominating our conduct or success in life. The 'Planet of the Apes' movies are more like what I was thinking than simply harmful environmental effects. I don't believe such things have ever existed, and I doubt human cultures, no matter how small, have ever failed to dominate their habitats.
