It's fun to eat something you harvested. In Illinois the deer herd has gotten so large that many licenses are doe only or take a doe and the license is good for going after that trophy buck. Sad thing is the license that allows for taking 50 deer because of crop damage and in some cases it's needed. But they all have to be buried, no giving the meat to food banks or homeless shelters. OTOH there is a program that is funded by sportsmens groups that allows you to take your deer to a locker plant and the meat is given to food banks. Okay, after 20 years of hunting deer I have a trophy on the wall. I ate all the meat and also had the hide made into gloves.
