I HAVE heard lots of people say that real estate is a lousy investment. It has even been mathematically proven here on this thread...to YOU. It's been awhile. That was back when you were championing real estate as the best investment there was. The eventual conclusion by most readers was that you buy a home because you like it and it's a place to live in. If you already own a home and want a good investment, look somewhere else.

I freely admit the math may not apply in another year, and am willing to bet that when real estate IS a good investment most people will not want it, or can't afford to buy it.

Show me someone who thinks buying now is a good investment and I'll immediately show you someone who has no idea what is going on, or is at least mathematically challenged.

Woops, this message was supposed to be directed to JQP in response to his "real estate as investment" comments.......now I'm talking to myself! LOL..

To John:

With all due respect for your low opinion of my opinions, I do need to point out that investors are waiting in the wings all over the country to grab some cheap real estate. So trying to convince all of these career-type investors that they will never make a dime on their purchases might take a lifetime.

I already mentioned a solicitation I received in the mail from a group of investors who want to buy homes in my neighborhood. I also mentioned today the author of "Rich Dad, Poor Dad", who says he's buying apartment buildings in Vegas.

You've also seen remarks on this thread from folks who eventually want to buy. There will always be people who want and need to buy--in the worst of times and best of times.

I've heard it called a lousy investment, but lousiness is relative. Almost any house has real tangible value (unlike, say, LEND shares 2 weeks ago at 15...<G>
