Arun,
That is true, China may be able to build the next generation sock factory as well as we do, but then what would be the advantage of their vast labor pool? Socks will be made and packaged essentially without labor. What will be a big disadvantage to the Chinese would be all the ocean freight.

The tariff is the only really fair tax and under our constitution one of the very few legal taxes. There is a theory of tariff that calls for raising the tariff on any imported item to equalize the price advantage an importer has due to cheap labor or other advantages. In addition, in order to conserve precious fossil fuels and to prevent "global warming" <grin>, an amount should be added to the tariff penalty to discourage shipping consumer items from the other side of the world and thereby save fossil fuel and lower "greenhouse gasses". Everything that could be made at home should be made at home.

China should make her own socks and teddy bears, as we should, and as should every other nation, where possible.

Arun, we have plenty of engineers and could create a vast pool of new ones, if need be, and in a hurry.

I am hopeful that the coming crisis (TEOTWAWKI) will unleash the forces needed to get real revolutionary change here in this country. If we do, globalism will be over.

Globalism is not about economics. It is about THEFT and STEALING. THe purpose of globalism is to create vast "offshore" and unaccountable pools of capital that can be used to bribe politicians and otherwise buy favors and influence. It is about power, not money.
