My dad had the highest regard for German culture and technology of the 1920s and 30s. Despite the financial crisis at that time, German medical science was the best in the world, far better than in England where he he was a med student. He specialized in gastroenterology (diseases of the gut) and was in fact the first one in South Africa. He wasn't directly involved in WW2, like your dad was. And I'm not a fighter either -- I'm a lover!
