Actually, GOOG didn't blow through the roof when it debuted on August 19, 2004. The shares went out at $85 (the original pricing filed in an S-1 was in a range of $108 to $135), opened at $100, and closed the day at $100.03.

As late as the first week in September, you could have picked up shares in the high 90s. The fact that GOOG went public via an auction may have kept the opening pop down.

I expect VMware to bump the price up one more time. I don't have a clue where the stock is going to open. If the market is still in turmoil on Tuesday, which is a very good possibility, that may keep the price down and provide a buying opportunity.
