>>Bush really is a very good leader. He understands sheeple and how to move the flock. Unfortunately he is an idiot and leads the sheeple in the wrong direction most of the time.<<

HL Mencken described Bush to a "T" when he was talking about William Jennings Bryan in the Scopes trial (see the entry on June 16th):

One somehow pities him, despite his so palpable imbecilities. It is a tragedy, indeed, to begin life as a hero and to end it as a buffoon. But let no one, laughing at him, underestimate the magic that lies in his black, malignant eye, his frayed but still eloquent voice. He can shake and inflame these poor ignoramuses as no other man among us can shake and inflame them, and he is desperately eager to order the charge.

OT, but not
Bush was the brain dead puppet of Rove. In 2000, Bush had the name and no worthy opponent. When in doubt, take the familiar path.
In 2004, Bush had a fear on his side.
He's nothing without a puppetmaster and slick propoganda.

>>>Humans really are just like sheep and lemmings.<<<

You should read Taleb. He expounds extensively about the psychological and even PHYSIOLOGICAL workings of the mind. He suggests that we are primarily wired to eat, flee, and reproduce. Often in the markets the flee program is played while you are telling yourself that you are being perfectly rational. You are running and you don't even know it. That may explain in part why sell-offs are so violent and bulls take so relatively long to build up.
