Similarly, I had stock in one company years ago (CSIX was the ticker) that had gone bankrupt so I asked for the cert, surprisingly got it, signed by the execs, and framed it and put it on the wall as a reminder of a lesson (apparently not completely) learned.

A few months later I just happened to notice the ticker going way up on touting so I called my broker and even though it was OTCBB, they were able to sell it "short for late delivery" and I ended up making money from that stock, but had to give up a treasured wall decoration.

I've got a little bit of HMB (now HMBN) in all 3 of my most active accounts and it adds up to a LOT of the stock. Unfortunately, it adds up to a substantial loss now but is trading so low that selling it wouldn't result in a usable amount of funds, so I'm going to see if I can get certs for this one too. Have totally written it off and should have some more wall decorations.
