I needed some imagination this weekend. I was nearly blown up! We had a family gathering of all the guys I went to college with and I was in charge of the fire. So I got the wood in place and my usual trick is to pour gas onto the wood and let it soak in. Well...the fire pit had a hot coal in it (not known at the time)so we had a quick blaze. This wouldn't have been a problem other than it burned all my leg hair off LOL - that was the funny part. The scary part was that the plastic container started on fire at the nozzle. There was 5 gallons of gas in the container and so I moved it quickly away from people. I didn't want to throw it or panic because it surely would have exploded. SO a bucket of lake water was grabbed and tossed on the nozzle and we all lived. I don't know why it didn't explode but I'm sure that 5 gallons would have probably created about a 60 foot mushroom cloud, burned everyone around and set the trees on fire. Even though I was unaware of the ember I looked like a crazy man when the blaze started and the container caught on fire. Beer and explosives don't mix real well and they mix less well when there's an ignition source in the fire pit! Other than that it was a great weekend and fun was had by all. I took junior to Eau Claire on the way back and stopped at an Irish pub on Water street that had formerly burned down in 2002. It always had the best cheese curds and I was happy to see it still did.
