I did not communicate clearly. I was referring to the retirement income plan that Congress granted itself. They don't have to contribute anything to it (apparently they pay social security) and it pays them quite handsomely for the rest of their lives. I believe it is periodically indexed for the inflation Congress causes.

If their plan were Social Security, it would probably receive more Congressional attention.

In the context of health care, most people do not trust government to represent their best interests. In countries with socialized medicine extended waits and uneven treatment are common problems.
