You must be assuming there is some kind of democratic rule in Palestine? Didn't you hear that the democratically elected government in Palestine was overthrown with the support and connivance of the U.S. and Israel? The people aren't allowed to decide anything for themselves, just their rulers.

Elroy > since Gaza and the West Bank aren't contiguous, why not a three state solution?

The truth is Israel isn't looking for any sort of solution -- except to eliminate the Palestinians completely, in one way or another -- ethnic cleansing, death, disease, you name it. The two-state solution story is no more than a myth which they banter about to pretend they are looking for a solution.

As things stand, Abbas doesn't have the authority or the right to negotiate any sort of solution for all the Palestinians and the US and Israel won't let him talk to Hamas. So, there's a total stalemate -- but that's exactly what they want. Now Israel can "negotiate" with Abbas until everyone is a lot older -- but unfortunately, all along the way, there will be "obstacles" and more "obstacles" and many pre-conditions.

And all the time they will keep smiling, patting each other on the head, hugging each other and saying how much closer they are to the "two state solution".

And from time to time they'll also bring out Tzippi Livni to kiss Abbas -- because they know while he's around there will be no solution -- and Israel will be keeping the land, and more.

"why not a three state solution?"

Isra'El hopes to fulfill their first uttered lie just before rushing the Palestinians in the 1940s.

"A land without people for a people without a land."

Slowly starve or force more of "them" out of Gaza and the West Bank is the goal.

Gaza and the West Bank have separate leadership at the moment

Wrong.
