supply deficiency is defined as Q(D) - Q(S). Q(D) may be normal but Q(S) may be abnormally low or Q(D) may be very high and Q(S) may be OK. We do not know at this point.

Think of it this way. If you are a low volume BMW dealer you will probably not get a sufficient quantity of the new carbon- fiber-roof M3s initially. This does not necessarily mean BMW has trouble making them.

I know Cray has been making a lot of noise about the Barcs it should be receiving. Dell, Sun, HP, IBM and lesser OEMs are all in the same boat. New core, true quad core, me wants it on my store front.

So there is no spin. I agree with you on the last point though, it is not good business to piss the channel off.

Spinning this as a 'good' thing is bizarre. No matter what
way you spin it, it's not good for AMD. If they cannot meet demand that means there is something wrong with manufacturing, they have had oodles of time to manufacture enough chips to meet demand, the speed is lower than expected at launch, the launch is much later than expected, reports indicate it will be a paper launch, none of this seems to bode well for Barcelona and AMD.

I don't think continually shortchanged the channel by AMD will be helpful for customer relations.

I have a hard time believing anyone will want to buy 95W 2 GHz Barcelona chips when much faster chips are right around the corner. I suspect MOST of the initial stepping's output will be below 2 GHz at the 65w power point.
