Crude supplies down 2.5 million barrels in latest week: API

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Crude oil inventories fell by 2.5 million barrels to 333.90 million barrels in the week ending August 10, the American Petroleum Institute reported Wednesday. Gasoline supplies fell by 800,000 barrels to 202.3 million barrels in the latest week, while distillate stocks declined 200,000 barrels to 128 million barrels, API said. In a separate report, the Energy Department said that crude oil supplies fell 5.2 million barrels to 335.2 million barrels in the latest week. Gasoline stocks declined 1.1 million barrels to 201.9 million barrels, while distillate stocks rose by 200,000 barrels to 127.7 million barrels, the Energy Department said. Refineries operated at 91.8% of their operable capacity last week, the government said. After the data, September crude rose 96 cents at $73.34 a barrel on Nymex. Other energy futures also posted strong gains.
