Lots of commentary on removal of the down tick rule for shorting and the fact that it coincides with the market tanking. Personally, I think it's not a factor, given decimalization and more modern trading vs. what was the reasons for implementing the rule.

As for the grandfathering exception to Reg Sho, as others have pointed out, it depends on whether the SEC puts teeth into this and truly ferrets out the cheating that goes on with "desking," with arbitrage offshore, etc.

Information is still being claimed to be more important for the industry than for the public.

All in all, it's all baby steps that are positive but will require more of us to "yell louder," to all the regulators and congress people that control the politics. Open up trading so information is available to all and trading is fair for all, eliminate or significantly reduce the dumping and shorting of shares into retail, etc.
