"Why don't they favor an inheritance tax or restoring their generous tax cuts?"

Well, duh. Because that would decrease the power of the wealthy overclass.

Ted, > Why don't they favor an inheritance tax or restoring their generous tax cuts?

The inheritance tax hardly does anything to reduce the gap between rich and poor. More likely than not, the rich can afford to dodge that tax. At best, the inheritance tax represents a very unsteady source of revenue. At worst, the inheritance tax punishes those who don't know how to game the system.

As for "restoring their generous tax cuts," that's the same as raising the income tax.
