Ted, CJ has it right to an extent.

My view is a little less "nuanced" than that, however. From the point of view of an immigrant kid, I have seen first-hand the difference between 1st generation immigrants, who work their asses off to make a future here, and their kids and/or grandkids, who don't give a damn and can't appreciate what they have and what was sacrificed to achieve it.

That's not surprising.......how can you expect kids to appreciate what their parents went through without experiencing it themselves. And the only time they hear about their parents' past travails is when the parents are trying to guilt them or punish them. Meanwhile, most other times, the parents are spoiling them to make up for the things they didn't have growing up. Parenting is a complex task requiring a lot of skills and effort. One of the hardest aspects of that task is not trying to win their kids' approval by indulging them. Few kids are born bad.....that's why I think its too easy to blame the kids.
