Dear Petz:

Both my cable modem (Motorola) and my ADSL modem (Siemans Slipstream 4300) have web pages at 192.168.0.1. At work, the Cayman ADSL modem (Cayman 3546 WAN: ADSL LAN: 4-port Switch) works the same way, but at a (configurable) fixed IP address of 192.192.192.99 using a Netopia front end.

Pete

I've found that when the outside connection is down the modem responds at 192.168.0.1 but when the outside connection is up the modem will not respond at that address.

In my case I'm using a Toshiba cable modem bought at retail years ago but Charter is the cable provider...

But the modem is a black box to the end user.

Well, to most users. ;)

Regards.
