The Fed/gov is panicking
They just don't want to show it.
This is a band-aid, not a cure for the economic cancer.

What is wrong with what they are doing? The risk takers are still getting slaughtered, and even more so with this action (greedy bears caught flat-footed). The fed is preventing everyone else from suffering.

I see no downside to what they are doing, and they have to do it. Cutting the fed funds rate WOULD reward the risk takers.
