I think the Dionne family was reasonably healthy, but they were poor - and there were already 5 or 6 kids in the family when the quints were born! I read that Mrs. Dionne at first did not want the neighbors to know she'd had quints, afraid that they would think she was an "animal" for having so many babies at the same time. Today, of course, you'd know if you were carrying more than one baby, unless you didn't have any prenatal care. The new quads might do well even without extraordinary care, which is good, but the cost of even that relatively minimal care will be very high, and no one will want to take any chances. We spend a fortune trying to save preemies.
