It's code.

Code is a real bugaboo for me. It presents all sorts of problems. My first experience with code was way back in the sixties with busing. I remember walking to school with my friends and stopping at the sweet shoppe on the way home and I really thought it best that kids go to neighborhood schools. I wanted to see the neighborhoods integrated, not busing. Imagine my shock when I found I was speaking racist code. It's been a sore spot for me ever since. I never use it and I'm always concerned that I may inadvertently use some questionable language. Nadine and I have had some discussions on anti-Semitic code. Nasty business.

but could have interpreted your Mexican vs. Canadian moms crack that way too

Yes, one could have given that there are racists out there who do look at things that way. It's not unreasonable to briefly consider that option for interpreting what I said. But one has absolutely no basis for insisting that that was what MUST have been intended. When what someone says is ambiguous, there are lots of options for interpretation. Choosing to take it in the worst possible light requires some serious baggage on the part of the interpreter.
