<Also, Kiwis seem much more laid back than Australians or South Africans or Americans. At least these two blokes do. >

So laid back they are horizontal. Dope does that to people. By the time they have taken their P, booze, cigarettes, cocaine, marijuana and party pills, ecstacy and BHP [or whatever it is - CD disc cleaner] their brains aren't fit for much.

I hasten to add that I know nothing at all about those two people, but in the absence of evidence to the contrary, there's a good chance that laid back = wasted.

There is also valium, prozac, ADHD treatments and general paralysis at the mercy of Big Sister big government which makes Stalin look laissez faire.

The GDP reflects what you have observed.

NZ was once 3rd richest country on Earth with a quality of life tops. We are still ahead of Zimbabwe but way behind countries which I used to feel sorry for [Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Spain, Italy, Greece etc]. We might not be ahead of Zimbabwe when the current debts are matched with income and the exchange rate. When expectations don't match resources in NZ, Zimbabwe might look a better choice to live in.

The productive are leaving NZ in droves for Oz, UK, USA. We are bringing in Chinese, Moslems and others who will turn it into where they have come from. Just as the British changed it from cannibalistic Maori to British, the Chinese will change it to their style. I do not want to live in China. But neither do I enjoy Big Sister [the concepts are similar].
