What is your meaning of Obama saying we would go into Pakistan unilaterally?"

he didn't say unilaterally, and it is unlikely that he meant that given the context.

Having said that, his statement was a dumb one. The most dangerous area on the planet is Pakistan. And while Musharraf isn't the greatest guy in the world, the current alternatives are much, much worse.

It seems to me that Americans don't have the right to criticize Bush for not going after Osama/al Qaida as they fled into Pakistan while at the same time condemning a would be president who says he would do so under certain circumstances. You can't have something like that both ways but we keep trying.

Seemingly, Americans want a muscular president who can make the hard decisions and do the difficult tasks without posing any danger or the threat to the US. Since danger and threat usually accompany aggressive behavior, one is rarely possible without the other. That means Americans end up sending a confused message to their leaders. We want our leaders to be like Superman, Spiderman, or even Bruce Willis of Diehard.......strong, God fearing, humble, honest to a fault who struggle with their power without misstepping or abusing it. Unfortunately, that's the stuff of comic books, legend and Hollywood. It has little do with the real world.

You are right.......Obama should not have made that statement about Pakistan. The guy is smarter and wiser than that but what to do when your intellect, your sensitivity, your wisdom is turned against you to make you look weak in the eyes of Americans. So long as Americans accept that military intervention in the affairs of other countries is a part of the American credo, this country will bounce from idiots like Bush who muck things up to smart ones like Clinton who make the best of a bad situation.

When Americans accept we can no longer be the world's super cop because we don't do it well and its too costly in terms of American lives and American dollars, IMO then and only then will we will get the quality of leader we deserve. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening any time soon.

Obama said if Musharaff wouldn't act - we would.

You guys are a waste of time.
