You fight when you have to. But only when there is no other choice. War very well may be diplomacy by other means. But it isn't a game.

But then, isn't it ironic that 3 of the biggest wars since WW II involving country were fought under Texas presidencies......Bush II, Bush I and Johnson. Now each war is different......Johnson purposely escalated the war in Vietnam; Bush I didn't have a lot of choice in the matter......Reagan had so encouraged Saddam that a true monster had been spawned who thought he was invincible; and Bush II had considerable choice and leeway but chose to go to war in any case. Even with those differences, I have begun to associate the Texas mentality with strong and aggressive militarism. But you and the author are saying that's wrong. Frankly, I don't know what to make of it.
