On the Mexican side there are not much in the way of roads, especially on the Gulf side. On down in Mexico there are some fairly big multilane (toll) roads, but just little winding and bumpy two lane tracks up near the border. There are a few of the big "doble" style trucks, but a recently as three years ago darn few of them crossed the border, even into the 20 mile "zone" where they are allowed. I think this map is misleading. According to this thing there is big traffic north from Matamoros, crossing at either Brownsville or McAllen. Well, there are only three little winding single lane roads coming up to the border from the south and they are really not carrying that much traffic, surely not that much truck traffic. The one from Tampico to Matamoros is particularly narrow and winding. Further south, near Veracruz, you can get on the toll road. There is just not that much traffic coming towards the Texas coast. There is a bit bigger road coming up to Monterrey from the middle of the country, but from there to Laredo is a two lane. And why would there be? Other than the illegals and some pot, there is not really that much stuff being shipped north from Mexico now. The pot and the illegals can do nicely on the winding, bumpy two lanes, though. This map would make you think that Texas is the center of the country, traffic wise. Thats just not so. I-77 north from Brownsville is not all that busy. And the China junk comes in mostly through the Pacific ports. Somebody is trying to make some sort of point with this map, and I think they got a little carried away with the red marker. Slagle
