Yes, there is much that can be done with the trillions currently being spent for war, defense and the deficits."

A couple of hundred billion is all it would take. Now, that is a fair chunk of change, but it pales in comparison to what we've spent on the war to date. And that money would open up the rest of the solar system to us, end our energy concerns for more than a century if not longer, and give us a way to deal with the low probability of of a comet or asteroid strike on the Earth.

Apparently, its too much to ask.

"couple hundred billion is all it would take"

Yeah, well heck...we're spending a trillion on Iraq and we threw a 100 billion at Katrina.

Why not throw another 200 billion on that?

That would be all well and good if the REST of the WORLD wasn't starting to figure out that the ONLY reason we can keep throwing money around like that is that we don't really value money very much.

The rest of the world is seeing their dollar holdings drop continuously in value. The U.S. is acting just the same way as those mortgage companies that were putting out all that crappy debt and then putting whatever value they wanted on it.
