Did you by chance check the tracks of the ones that don't come into contact with the Yucatan Peninsula? I think those are the ones that tend to curl. It may have to do with the spin when the edge hits land (slows down). Dean is taking a remarkably straight trajectory.

It certainly does look like all the US will dodge a bullet. Dean also weakened since yesterday. Sustained winds down 5 mph and losing 10 miles of radius for hurricane strength winds.
