The base periods for the house prices and the CPI were different and I didn't renormalize them. In the current boom house prices have beaten inflation in all regions. But from 1986 to 1999 either house prices rose less than inflation or a little more. I suspect that if we see the series up till 2015 or so house prices will again only beat inflation by a little.
