"If wishes were horse, beggars would ride." - Napoleon.

(With the possible exception of basing in Kurdistan - with which we will have our hands full trying to keep our other ally, Turkey, from coming down on like a ton 'o bricks, with that exception noted, it's all many hundreds of BILLIONS of borrowed monies added to the national debt WASTED.)

Considering all factors (the debt, the opportunity cost, the strengthening of IRAN, etc.) it's a boondoggle. A great HARM to American interests.

(However, it might be possible to grasp strategic victory from the maw of this mammoth disaster... if we can extricate ourselves fast enough so that Iran and the allied Shia Theocracy to come in rump 'Iraq', and Saudi Arabia and fellow corrupt anti-democratic Gulf Sunni regimes and their fundamentalist Whabbist cat's paws, can EXHAUST THEMSELVES in regional power struggles.)
