Maurice, you are also guessing that the investment in OFDM was actually stopped or even started. Every company worth it salt has both strategic and tactical plans for the next 5 and sometimes 10 years. In many cases, especially with bleeding edge technology, to advertise these plans by publicly commenting on them would be detrimental to your current and future growth.

In the late 90's Q was evangelizing CDMA and it's improvements as the next best thing to come along since sliced bread. To even hint that there was a better method that would be available in a few years would have threatened the advancement of CDMA and ruined the company. That said, IJ and Vertibe are very bright people and being the scientists that they are, would have always been looking at future technologies. Asking themselves, "What do we do after CDMA?"

I always believed that both IJ and Vertibe recognized that OFDM was a viable threat to CDMA. The problem then become, "how do we take advantage of that and still keep our public stance on CDMA?"..The answer is "Andrew, how about if you resign from Q and go help that Flarion company and then let us know how we can incorporate that technology into CDMA". "Good idea Irwin, I can use a break here anyway, I am getting a little stagnant". "I will get back to you when I think it is mature enough to be a real (as opposed to potential) threat". In the meantime, you need to make sure we keep a small core of engineers keeping close tabs on us and our advancements" "See ya later old buddy."

I am guessing at who stopped the investment in OFDM.
