I am not ignoring the reality of applied comparative moral distinctions; I am trying to say it can be placed aside to examine the forces at work in all extremisms, what is at the root of intolerance and separation, in the hopes of recognizing it regardless of the messenger. At that point, I think it is certainly fair to be judgmental about the beliefs and the damage done in promoting them. I don't care if you shun me for dancing, but if you behead me for it, I will see you as a whole lot more dangerous.

Certainly, individuals have done wonderful things in all religions. I don't know enough Muslim history to pull out names of educators or those who preached peace or tolerance. But for every John Wesley, you have a Pope Innocent III. For every Billy Graham preaching love, you have a Jerry Falwell spewing hate. Like Lane3, I am not an atheist, but I sure am NOT religious, not in the sense of organized churches with specific doctrines. And definitely not when it comes to seeing one doctrine as Truth over all others.
I really don't think we disagree on this, only in the way we look at them at certain times.
