Slingbox allows you to watch your home television on a computer, so you can watch it at work if you can get it through your firewall, or watch it on your laptop while traveling. In my case, since I live outside the US, so I can watch US TV on my home PCs, my laptop, and eventually on my work PC if I can get it up, ahem, and running. I sort of doubt it would work with TIVO, but am not sure.

You've got to put the slingbox hardware next to the television that you want to watch and next to an internet connection. In my case, I have it being hosted by friends that have an extra TV that they rarely watch which is next to their DSL router (which had an open port). The good thing is once you pay for the slingbox (~$170), the viewing is free.
