As for CNN doing the conflating, assuming for the sake of argument that they all do have or have had warriors, I don't see how it's conflating to say so.

Well if you assume for the sake of argument the exact point which I have been contesting, then you can claim anything you please.

But I don't assume it and they don't all have warriors, not in any comparable sense, unless you drag in the more militaristic Christian and Jewish moments from thousands of years ago to set against the Salafis of today. Which makes it a a meaningless exercise, just like your assertion that labelling completely different movements under one "God's Warriors" label is not conflation. Of course it's conflation, if conflation is to have any meaning at all.
