You wanna hear the real story?

About a week and a half ago, I was sitting in a Sardinian cantina, happily sousing away with about eight Italian men. The TV was on, and I understand enough Italian now to know that they were talking about the liquidity crisis and the ECB pumping a lot of cash in that day to quell the fears.

The subject of the conversation lay elsewhere, however. My son had earlier casually mentioned how Canadian vineyards he had visited had been complaining about not getting enough fruit per vine. Well, the conversation for the past two hours had been on how to increase production of grapes. (Actually, the ideas were really quite sensible.)

During this, one guy had been talking to me quite agitatedly for half an hour but I couldn't understand a word he was saying. This doesn't bother me, as when they talk fast, I lose the conversation.

Finally. one of the other guys came up to me and explained that that was old Cesanio, who spoke no Italian, only Sardo. Most of them couldn't understand him either and he was used to "just talking".

I don't know if there's a metaphor for the markets (plenty of liquidity!) in there, but I wouldn't trade that afternoon for pretty much anything.
