Next time travel a few mi south of Atlantic City to Margate and view Lucy the Elephant...a large wooden structure built over a century ago as a small hotel...few mi more and you're at Wildwood with the widest beach on the east coast, there's a shuttle to the water's edge from the boardwalk. Then travel even further south to Cape May, NJ. Stay at one of the Victorian bed & breakfasts or at a motel right across from the ocean. Stroll to the end of the promenade to enjoy the beautiful sunset. For a long wkend continue so along the coast to Ocean City, MD. It's a small city and more crowded & congested than the other beach towns. However, it has a great boardwalk at beach level with a wide variety of eating establishments from the traditional hot dog & freedom fries to gourmet. My favorite is Shennanigans on the boardwalk, try their warm apple cinnamon soft pretzel with a scoop of vanilla ice cream...yummy. Very family oriented resort...no casinos. To go further so along the coastline, take the ferry to Lewes, DE and drive a few mi to Rehobeth Beach..stop at the factory outlet mall for a diversion or continue on to Bethany Beach. If you would really enjoy a very quiet beach atmosphere with wide open spaces, evening crab walks, southern cooking, take a wk's vacation along the Crystal Coast of North Carolina...gorgeous area and the friendliest people you'll ever meet.
