He proposed the conditions, I have no way of knowing whether he would live up to it. Personally I don't see how lying is connected to use of invective but he justified it that way. But it is worth considering.

The use of invective is a way to vehemently denounce or reproach the views or actions of others you may find to be objectionable. Using invective and descriptive labels can rise to an art form, however, it can also be used inappropriately as a way of falsely characterising someone in an abusive manner. The latter of which would be no different than lying about another person.

Lying about another person to create a false and dishonorable notion is simply wrong, under all circumstances over the whole duration of time.
