I don't totally understand the use of DNA to identify relatives.

Can you explain how it was done with Jefferson.

My presumption would be that there are living male descendants who are known to be related to Jefferson------then in comes the matching with other families who have males whose DNA matches that of the known relatives.

Is that close?
