Maybe, but it could also mean that the non-violent steps that fundamentalists take are significant, and perhaps problematic, as well, although not in the same way.

There are lots of non-violent actions that fundamentalists pursue that I consider problematic. Sure, they aren't remotely in a class with having one's head chopped off, but that doesn't mean they're benign. Nothing that impedes collaboration, consensus, and exploration in my mind, is benign.

If your world view is oriented towards the threat from terrorism, you're more likely to find your interpretation in that statement. But if you're focus is more on the personal and societal incompatibility between certainty and growth/exploration and freedom, then you see mine.

What Amanpour has in mind may be one or the other or both or something else.
