"I thought that it was very very difficult to get one of those fully auto weapons." No, not difficult, just expensive. It's called a "Class III FFL." Costs about $500, and there's a lot of rules and paperwork associated with the license as well as obtaining and selling the full auto gun. Similarly, many people think sawed off shotguns and silencers are illegal. In fact, they aren't; they just require the payment of a tax and lots of paperwork.
