Yes we do. "We need to be reminded " The country can be thought of as having a bank account of freedom. Veterans are the only ones who have every really made deposits. The rest of us get used to making withdrawls. I am thankful for all of the veterans who have sacrificed for my freedom. There are others who have sacrificed and who would count as making deposits towards freedom. Several of those have made the ultimate sacrifice. People such as the 9/11 victims, Daniel Pearl, etc.
