There is little doubt he is the big fish to take down. He's also a liar. This may have gone differently if he had realized early that he was hosed and cooperated rather then lying assuming his wealth and status would keep him free.

You made another point though and there is a disconnect in this country at times. Your often better off beating up your neighbor then you would be beating your animal.

No doubt about that.

Keep in mind, one of the reasons prosecutors bring cases is deterrence. No doubt the US Attorney figured this would be a high profile case that would get a lot of press and might make others think twice before they decide to get into this line of work.
