But that was not the example I made. The poster posted 19 times in the evening and continued with 19 more in the early morning.

You evidently don't see the cruft that makes on a thread which has 30-40 posts in a 24 hour period. Even if the thread averaged 80 posts in a 24 hour period, having over 30% from a single poster, makes the thread full of noise.
