Their only concern was to establish their religion [not to spread it to the nations]… But Islam is under obligation to gain power over other nations (The Muqudimmah, vol. 1 pg. 473, emphasis added).

The references you seek are numerous and wide-spread, not only throughout the Quran but also in other notable Muslim works. You really should consider reading the text you inquired about. I also recommend the book The Quranic Concept of War by Malik. Malik was a Pakistani General A war college report on the book can be found here - carlisle.army.mil The book is hard to find. I have a copy and am willing to discuss various points if you have questions after reading the shorter report. For a more direct response to your question, I offer these references. Be sure to read all of them. uw "O Prophet! Make war against the unbelievers [all non-Muslims] and the hypocrites and be merciless against them. Their home is hell, an evil refuge indeed." (Koran, 9:73) "When you meet the unbelievers in jihad [holy war], chop off their heads. And when you have brought them low, bind your prisoners rigorously.
