Quran is the only text that is agreed upon by all branches of Islam (and even that is a bit iffy). Every other "authoritative" text belongs to a specific branch and therefore cannot be applied to a specific branch. An example of a big contrast on this would be the views of the Shia on Jihad. They are forbidden to wage Jihad of aggression under anyone's leadership but the "rightful" Imam. In the Shia view, the "rightful" Imam is the Mahdi (messiah) who is protected and made invisible by Allah until the end of times. So for practical purposes, the Shia may not wage Jihad of aggression. Period.
