Re...Birds..

"Big Dark Coming..."
Hunter Thompson....

I walk at dawn every day..
(In the cool of the morning..
70-75 degrees..)

there is a wooded grove..
just 75 yards from the house..
and a 60 acre 'lake'

not far beyond...

the birds are strangely absent this year...
so few..sing out..
it is Disturbing....

I sat at Sun Set
last week..
and saw 3 birds
in about 30 minutes

THREE BIRDS.......................
....................................!!!??
WTF....

Great both birds AND bees are disappearing and dying.

In the Future

When we sit down our children and begin to instruct
them on the mysteries of life, by telling them the
story of the "birds and the bees" our collective
breaths will be sharply taken away from us by the
simple question:

Mom, Dad - what were the birds and the bees?

- A.

We bought a couple of bird books this year, because we saw so many more than usual. I counted 12 different kinds of birds that frequently came to the yard. We had some House Finches set up a nest under the patio cover, and since the nest was precariously on a two by four, when they were out getting nesting material, I put a slight brace up to keep the nest from sliding off accidently. They had three chicks. It was comical to look up at the nest and see these three wide open beaks pointing to the sky. They didn't make any noise that I ever heard. We went out of town for a weekend back in April and when we got back the nest was empty. They got their wings and were gone just that quickly. I was hoping to see the first flight adventures.

One year we had a whole bunch of Sparrows nesting in the back neighbor's tree. My wife said it was hilarious when it came time for the practice flights. There would arise this tremendous sound of 30 or 40 little birds all chirping loudly and enmasse they'd take flight to an adjoining tree, and the chirping would get even louder as if they were all sharing their great adventure with each other. It would quiet down for a spell then pick up again as they got wound up to fly to the next tree. They'd go all the way around the house from tree to tree, and take most of the morning or afternoon to do it. She found herself laughing all the time at the energy of it. Too funny.

For the last two months I've only seen the Hummingbirds and an occasional Sparrow. Once it got hot they were all out of here. I miss their music.
