It's probably difficult to admit you were in the wrong to a group that targeted your cities of innocent civilians with Nukes.

It doesn't have anything to do with the Nukes we dropped. It has to do with the loss of face. The Japanese where already humiliated by losing the war but teaching future generations about all the massacres in China etc. would be unbearable for them. Not to mention that even today there are ultra-right wing nationalists around, (mostly in the form of the Yakusa). They are finally teaching some aspects of the war years but more or less only to acknowledge that the war happened.

Japan has earned my respect,

And rightfully so, they've developed into a wonderful country.
