I always wondered why the guys at the local lumber yard used to call me Jerry when I walked in, and some of the guys at work used to call me Jerry, until I saw a picture of him in an obituary. To quote Danny Devito from Twins, "It was like looking in a Meera"! I always figured after that photo if I was ever pressed for making money I could put on some weight and start a new craze of Jerry Garcia lookalikes. I'd have to go back and listen to a whole bunch of the Grateful Dead's music first though. I'm not sure why I didn't listen to them in the 65-71 time frame. Being an East Coaster Baltimore, during high school I was into British Import music. Maybe that's why. I was into Atomic Rooster and Gentle Giant back then, Spooky Tooth. (I got to see Gary Wright at The Sunday Break concert in Austin back in 76. Wolfman Jack was the master of ceremonies.) I liked all of the Pot Rock bands. Although, I think Atomic Rooster was more in the Acid Rock side of things. I liked it all back then. Strawbs, Genesis. The Who. Music all by itself got me high, and for the most part it still does. New music is the best, because I don't know what the next licks are going to be. As long as I can comprehend the overall music style that is. They can put Rap back into the chain saw for all I get out of it. Some of the best music for family dysfunctional presentation for me is Nickelback. Christ it's like all those guys have been through an emotional torture chamber, but their lyrics strike a brutal side of truth as far as relationships go. I liked them the first time I heard them. "he's sittin out there in the waiting room lookin just as sweet as he can be" after he beat the sh*t out of mom again. Mom got him though. She got a pistol and decided to see just how tough the bastard could be. If I grew my hair long and grew my beard back, people my generation would think they were seeing a ghost. Is that Jerry Garcia? Seeing what happened with the Elvis look a likes has kept me careful about it. Gene pools are funny things.
