< lives, the sky is falling, the sky is falling run run. To be serious now The market could tank again and the US dollar could go much lower than its ever been before but my gut instinct tells me that the world cannot afford for the US dollar to collapse completely and the world biggest players will help out somehow>

That would be nice (the big players help us out), but they've been doing that for a decade or more... OTOH, who knows maybe they will!? But realistically, the fact is that the Long Dollar play is the biggest trade on the planet EVER (as has been mentioned by Trotsky for years) and it is unlikely to have a happy ending. Let us hope that stupid countries continue to accept our IOU's while we accumulate cheap gold.

"another thought just crossed my mind billions could be spent on replacing all the North American infrastructure"

Unless they quit trying to Walmartize the middle east and switch away from a war economy (oh yeah that will be the day) any major infrastructure campaign will need lots of money so Bernanke can print more USD till it drops to zero.

I pretty well am convinced you are wrong about other countries supporting the dollar. They are moving out of it. When China dumps, and they certainly will, things will end for the USD. Right now Japan and China are not getting paid for what they ship to the USA if all the get back are dollars declining in value. So the logical thing for them to do is switch tem as soon as they get them for stronger currencies and that is what they are doing and will continue to do at a faster pace than before. The USD is positively going to TANK when the funds rate drops a whole point soon. If you were the Chinese would you sit on dollars and watch them decline alost daily? Sorry but the Chinese are in business and they don't need the USA THAT badly.
