Pinetree Capital PNP rose 15 percent to c$5.45 Friday on volume of 3.2 million shares. I do not see any news. Perhaps the Canadian govt. securities investigation announced in Nov. 2006 has dried up and gone away? What I do know is that this closed-end fund owns large positions, often in the millions of shares, in many microcap resource stocks. If you care to learn more, Pinetree's June 30 financials are posted on sedar, providing an eye-opening list of PNP's stock positions. Three examples: 4.5 mm shares plus warrants in Aura gold; 535,000 shares of Aurelian; 5.4 mm shares of mega uranium. Nice diversified way to share in the largesse to come this fall, as the larger investment world finally cognizes the value of gold, silver, uranium, oil, gas, and base metals, and the lack of value of them nasty little dollar bills.
