Civil rights were supposed to level the playing field. Everybody would have equal opportunity.

Before that, as Lindy said, if you had a black lawyer or doctor, you knew he was damn good.

The opposite is true now. Affirmative action is a bleeding sore that only hurts the left as it continues to rouse resentment among those who have to compete with people less deserving than themselves who are members of "favored minorities."

Affirmative action was started to help blacks, to "redress historical wrongs," as they say. The argument is being gutted by changing demographics.

Try discussing affirmative action with an American-Asian. Try to tell a Latino why he should feel sympathy for a black because of historical prejudice.
