Outside of the nuts like Reid, I am not so sure liberals see an immediate and total withdrawal as a decent option

Um, Rambi, said "nut" is Senate Majority Leader, hardly a fringe character. Candidates Richardson, Clinton, and Obama are also on the record favoring speedy withdrawals. This looked like a better bet back in June when they said it than it does now. But then, their attitudes towards the war have been highly political from the git-go. Clinton, not surprisingly, is best positioned to triagulate on the matter as she has never apologized for her initial pro-war vote.

Re Iraq...It does no good to 'misremember' the actual words, but rather today, we can go directly to the source on line and most of these speeches are recorded as well.

whitehouse.gov

No human endeavor is ever without fault, or mishaps. I wonder how long we would have been in Iraq, if our Military had been able to actually fight the battle as they did in WWII. We have always tried to protect civilians, but honestly, from what we have seen, we have gone to the nth degree in doing that. We seem to have hamstrung our Military, and sometimes to their own deaths. The story Unclewest told of us earlier today is a case in point.

I DON'T think that GWB was talking about the length of the war....Dems have been bashing Bush for anything they could think of, since before he was elected. In fact, you can prove that to yourself.. Go to Advanced Search here on SI, and look what was being said about him (not by the inhabitants of the pages, but what public people who are supposed to know something were saying)

--in 2000 so many didn't like him, and tried to say anything to stop his election. They dang near did, by falsifying records, and all sorts of other election shananiguns (sp?).

--in 2001, he had a hard time getting his cabinet in, because of all the opposition. They dealt with a very tricky situation on our plane that collided with a Chinese plane...our pilots were captured...that summer. Then 9-11..

--2002, we go into Afghanistan...plus regular business...

--2003, we go into Iraq...again, look at what people who should know better said. Some of these idiots really thought there would be a quick month long or so war....

In the nearly 5 years since the start of the war in Iraq, we have lost less than 3,700 Military.... In VN, overall, we lost more than 57,000 killed.

We stopped funding the war in VN. The Dem Congress has threatened that for the last year since they were elected.

I'm SURE this is what prompted GWB to compare VN and Iraq.

No Democrat has been able to come up with a decent plan to get out of Iraq. Not a single one.

All they do is complain.

Anybody can complain. It takes wise people to actually accomplish something.
